(Part 1 of 2)- Yes, each year there are several new directions to discover!
According to the Professionals, 2023 is going to be a beautiful year for Interior Design!
The Top Emerging Design Trends to fall in love with for 2023 are here! There's a lot to get into, but it all starts with the question: What are the Design Trends? These are either new or existing ideas reimagined, used in new and dynamic ways to bring a fresh new look to your home or space.
There are so many exciting and interesting ideas happening this year. As we look towards the introduction of more colour, as well as to the mixing of furniture styles, there's something for absolutely every luxury design lover.
At the end of 2022, plaster and lime wash started to make their way into design. I wouldn't be surprised to see this finish making its way back into peoples homes again. These also work well with warmer colours. Making moodier spaces, emphasized by richer colours and textures.
Enter wellness, people need colour in their lives and this is reflected in how it makes them feel. Health and wellness will continue this year as people value their homes more than ever. When it comes to space planning, clients are requesting intentional spaces for activities like meditation, yoga, exercise, and last but not least, home spas. The pandemic has changed us all, its a fact. Our thinking about our home, the different living spaces and how we want to use our spaces within it are forefront in our minds.
Incorporating nature into our living spaces is becoming increasingly popular. Whether its brings the outdoors in – via mother nature’s air filtration system (aka houseplants) – or bringing the indoors out – through the increased use of outdoor kitchens and other multipurpose exterior living spaces, living walls or specialized recreational spaces, everything is on the table.
So far as colour schemes are concerned, expect more dramatic looks. Soft blush pinks and corals will be big in 2023, as Designers move away from all white and grey décor (this make me so happy!). Reintroducing colour into the home, moving away from the monochromatic look makes for a wonderful change, one that is fresh, inviting with a move towards luscious modern. Faux finishes on powder room walls and mantels will also be on trend. Dark accent walls in large rooms will provide the dramatic accent in an open floor plan home. I can officially declare, that the days of the all white kitchen is now over. (Yeah!)
If the past is anything to go by, we’re sure to see a decent showing of Pantone’s 2023 colour of the year – a rich, berry-infused red known as Viva Magenta. The institute calls the colour "an unconventional shade for an unconventional time” and says it’s inspired by cochineal bugs, which were once used to make red food colouring.
